Alstrom Point - Lake Powell, UT
Dates: 9/5/15 - 9/6/15
Location: Google Maps
I finally had the opportunity to head up to Alstrom Point, arguably the most scenic view of Lake Powell. This was one of my favorite camp sites to date - the expansive views of the lake and layers of towering rock walls were hard to beat, especially when viewed at sunrise and sunset.
Getting to Alstrom requires 4WD, as the last 2 miles are over slick rock and can be bumpy and a little difficult to follow. It only took us about an hour and half coming from Page, and Google Maps directed us the entire time. Most of the dirt roads are numbered and marked, and as long as it hasn't rained recently, the Wahweap creek crossing immediately out of Big Water shouldn't be a problem.
The view of the lake at night was equally impressive, it was so cool seeing everybody's fire on the beaches. We even got to watch a group's firework show from deep in Padre Canyon!
We only spotted one other group camping near the point who also woke up at sunrise to catch a gorgeous sun rising over the lake.
Although we had to line our tent with rocks to be sure it would hold up in the strong gusts, the night was relatively warm. Once the afternoon sun came out, it was way too hot with no shade and we decided to head to our next stop.
